Ballot Paper Anomalies for Mbizo Constituency Candidate

United Zimbabwe Alliance has taken the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to the High Court seeking a compelling order, to have ZEC directed to reprint the ballot papers for Mbizo constituency where our UZA candidate Gladys G Mutunami is standing for the 26 March 2022 by-elections.

The candidate, upon inspecting ballot papers, has raised valid objections to her photo image presentation. As UZA, we firmly believe that the electorate will not be able to identify our candidate and this will disadvantage our candidate in the 26 March 2022 by elections.

Papers have been filed with the High Court on an urgent basis. Previous to the court filing, a letter was sent to ZEC on 23 March 2022, requesting a reprint of the ballot. Unfortunately ZEC chose to disregard the request, proceeding with the use of the current photo which has blotches and is overly darkened so as to be unrecognizable, to the extent that one cannot even identify the gender of the candidate. As UZA, we urge ZEC to ensure free, fair and credible elections.
